Family Letter 08-30-17 B2B Adventures in Sedona

Hello again families! This is client J and the boys at B2B coming to you this week from Sedona.

We had a hectic weekend before our trip – with our getting a new client and all of us staying up too late watching the Mayweather/ McGregor fight. The following morning things didn’t get any better. The 15-passenger van wouldn’t start and we were forced to improvise, but as always we made it work.

B2B Article FL 08 30 17 02 400x250 1 Sunday we hiked a 7 mile loop called Bear Jaw Abineau. The trail took us through a sprawling forest then up about 2,000 feet on beautiful Mount Humphreys. At the saddle we had a picturesque view of not only the Northern side of Humphreys but also the Grand Canyon on the horizon; it was really something special. After we made our descent, we crammed (literally) back into the van and drove about an hour to Shnebly Hill Road to camp. We set up for the night then held an AA meeting about sponsorship and how we have benefitted from it. Afterwards, we whipped up a group meal of chicken stir fry and headed to bed.

B2B Article FL 08 30 17 03 400x250 1 The following morning we got up at 7, made a group breakfast, then piled in the van and headed to Wet Beaver Creek. We took Bell Trail (about 3 miles one way) to a swimming hole called ‘The Crack’. The hike itself, although extremely hot, was very different from most of the hikes we have done. Imagine a long trail starting out very arid and desert-like that winds through a valley nestled by the red rocks and cliffs for which Sedona is famous. The Crack was amazing 65-72 degree water with 15-30 foot cliffs on either side perfect for cliff jumping. After about an hour we decided to get back on the trail; it was getting hotter and we didn’t want to be stuck hiking back during the hottest part of the day. We then headed to a park in Sedona to hold our weekly ‘Sharing is Caring’ meeting about our mindset coming to B2B vs. what it is like now. As you can imagine, it’s a pretty stark comparison.

We then headed to an AA meeting in Sedona and I’m not gonna lie; it was a bit awkward. The AA meeting was a book study and they just so happened to be reading the ‘to wives’ chapter out of the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous… OK, so a little explanation: The AA book was written in 1939, a different time, when most people seeking help for this affliction were men. The book was also written by men and it is fair to say it can be geared toward men at parts. That is not to say something still cannot be taken from every part of it. So the reading generated some spirited debate among the group. Honestly though it turned out to be a great meeting and after fellowship time with the locals we headed back to camp to eat and retire for the night.

The next morning we got to sleep in till 7:30, then we headed to Buffalo Park back in Flagstaff. Here we broke up into 2 groups, one group went and played 18 holes of disc golf while the others ran a loop next to the course before regrouping and heading back to the house. Another amazing trip for the books here at B2B and to our families we love you all and will c-ya again next week!
