Recovery isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. That’s why Back2Basics offers a structured continuum of care—from intensive residential treatment to transitional sober living and aftercare support. Our model is designed specifically for men helping them move from addiction and instability toward independence and long-term success.
Whether you’re just beginning your recovery or need continued structure post-treatment, we meet you where you are and guide you every step of the way.
Each level of care is part of an integrated experience. Clients can enter at different stages based on clinical need, but most begin with residential treatment and transition into aftercare.
Our flagship program offers immersive, long-term care in a highly structured and supportive setting.
Through a blend of individual therapy, group sessions, outdoor adventure, and life-skills training, men learn to rebuild their lives from the inside out.
Dual diagnosis refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition. These conditions often interact in complex ways:
As clients progress, our sober living homes offer a safe and structured step-down environment where they continue to practice the tools of recovery while re-engaging with the world around them. It’s the ideal space between treatment and total independence.
Recovery doesn’t end after treatment. Our aftercare services provide long-term support and connection, helping our alumni avoid relapse and continue to grow in sobriety.
Back2Basics specializes in treating the complex needs of men in recovery, including:
Our clinicians create personalized treatment plans based on each client’s clinical assessment, history, and goals. We treat addiction at the root—while helping clients build healthy emotional regulation, coping skills, and personal responsibility.

Our admissions team will walk through your situation and help identify the right starting point — no pressure, no commitment required.
A continuum of care is a sequenced approach to treatment where a person moves through progressively less intensive levels of support as they stabilize and build independence. At Back2Basics, that continuum moves from residential treatment — our most structured, immersive program — through sober living and into aftercare and alumni support. The goal is to meet each person where they are clinically and transition them forward as they’re ready, rather than discharging them from care all at once.
The right level of care depends on the severity of the substance use, whether there’s a co-occurring mental health condition, what your home environment looks like, and whether previous treatment attempts have held. Most people entering Back2Basics begin with residential treatment, which provides the highest level of structure and clinical support. If you’re unsure, our admissions team will conduct a no-pressure intake assessment and help identify the appropriate starting point.
Most major insurance plans — including many PPO and some HMO plans — cover residential addiction treatment. Coverage varies by plan, and benefits for inpatient behavioral health care have expanded significantly under mental health parity laws. The fastest way to confirm your benefits is to use our insurance verification form — we’ll check your coverage and walk you through what’s included before you commit to anything.
Residential treatment is a full-time, clinically supervised program where clients live on-site and participate in structured therapy, group sessions, outdoor programming, and life-skills training throughout the day. It’s the most intensive level of care we offer. Sober living is less intensive — clients live in a structured, drug- and alcohol-free home with peer accountability, ongoing therapy, and recovery coaching, but with more autonomy and focus on independent functioning. Most clients transition from residential into sober living as a step-down.
Yes. A significant portion of our clients come from outside Arizona. Flagstaff’s setting — away from home environments that may be triggering, surrounded by mountains and outdoor space — is part of why families choose Back2Basics for long-term residential care. Our admissions team can help coordinate travel logistics and will work with your insurance to verify out-of-state coverage.
Absolutely. We keep families informed and engaged through regular updates, therapy sessions, and educational support.
