Back2Basics Feels Like Family

Table of Contents

It feels like family here and family is not always perfect, but here at Back 2 Basics Sober Living you grow into supporting each other and getting close even when you’re not perfect.

This summer a client thought that inhaling the gas from a whip cream can would be a good idea. Sometimes you do things out of habit and you don’t think. Essentially, he had a relapse on “whip-it” and was asked to leave Back 2 Basics for a few days. When I heard he was leaving I was initially upset. I could see a look in his eyes that said he was thinking of not coming back. I was initially upset by the whole thing because I have seen him blossom into such a happy, funny and open person. He is someone that if I knew he was out using again it would be a huge loss for other young people in the world and in recovery.

Fast forward, the great part of this story is that he has come back to the Back 2 Basics Sober Living program, and has become a contributing member of the B2B community. I think he reminds me of my little brother too. They are about the same age and very similar in their personality. My brother is going through some addiction problems right now so I think that’s why it had hit so close to home.

I have gotten pretty close to the people here at Back 2 Basics Sober living. It is nice because we eat dinner together every night and go to 12-step meetings together. It feels like a family. I know I will be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas here, it will be nice exchanging gifts here. I do love Flagstaff, it feels like home.
