Living In the Moment

Most mornings I was too hungover to do something like this.

Things are going very well down here in paradise. I’ve started really getting into the daily swing of things. Every day is about the same with variations, but never boring. We wake up at 6:45a.m. and leave for surfing around 7 or 7:30a.m. Our surfing instructors name is Edgar. He is super chill and I’m almost positive he has lived in the area his whole life. Surfing was a little tricky at first. I have surfed before but was never all that great so it took two trips to Playa Linda to get in the zone. It’s still pretty difficult, and I’m still not all that good, but I’m doing better. I’ve caught a few super solid waves. Paddling out is the hardest task though. Especially today, I get thrashed around so many times just trying to get out there. The difference between now and the first day is that now I laugh and think it’s hilarious and have a great time with it whereas before it was extremely frustrating constantly getting thrown about by the waves and having it take so long to get out. But I just keep on paddling with the end result in my mind. I guess, as cheesy as it sounds, this would be a good metaphor for my recovery thus far, hitting obstacles, keep paddling, getting pushed back, keeping your goal or end result in mind. Anyways, we’ve been to three beaches while in Mexico, Playa Linda is my favorite, and it’s the closest. Every day after surfing usually around eleven or so, five of us head down to the market to grab some food. We’re all pretty starving by this point. We’ve gone to the same place so many times now that the five women that work there know us on a first name basis. So far I’ve tried some enchiladas, chicken fajitas, and some breaded spicy fish enchiladas thing, all of which were amazing. I would always eat tons of food, almost to the point where I felt like if I had another bite I would throw up. I realized here that I didn’t know the true feeling of being full until I had my first meal here. It’s safe to say that now that I know. From the market we go back to the villas and hang out for a couple of hours before our Spanish class. Shirley is our Spanish teacher, she is a super cool person. She definitely likes to talk a lot, but I always look forward to her classes. Spanish class is over around 4:00PM every week day, and we don’t have classes on weekends. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we go to an AA meeting then to dinner. On days that we don’t have AA meetings we will usually have dinner around the same time. I literally have no complaints here. My life today is amazing, I’m just completely in the moment every day and because of that I am stress free and contempt. I am just super grateful for where I am right now and for the people I share it with.
