This week we are focused on long-term sober living and we’ve been getting the house situated to accommodate new arrivals here in Flagstaff.
Our second client arrived on Saturday, a young alcoholic, who is really willing to pursue long-term recovery and positive change. He is a great addition to the Back2Basics growing household of clients!
Part of our treatment program includes both exercise and outdoor adventure therapy. This is key to creating positive change and a new way of living. We went for a hike today to Griffith Spring in Flagstaff, stopped along the way to have a meeting to share some common experiences. Group conversation helps our clients to relate and realize that they are not alone and through the eyes of others they can succeed in life and sobriety.
Alcoholism is both a disease and a killer. It doesn’t care if you are young, old, poor, rich, or anything in between. It wants to consume your life until there is no life for you any longer. Our clients have come to realize that deep stronghold this week as we learn about alcohol addiction and how to transition from it into sober living.
In addition to our group therapy and conversations, it is important for clients to face reality through experiential learning. At Back2Basics we incorporate ‘field trips’ and enter into the sober community here in Flagstaff to learn and see all the walks of life that are affected. This is the great part of our treatment program, one that most residential sober communities don’t offer, interaction with the community. A treasure chest of experience and wisdom is at the finger tips of our clients, and we as staff at Back2Basics help each client takes those first tentative steps towards the path of sober living through these combined techniques.
