Each day in Mexico has started with surfing at about 7:00am.  We head out to Playa de Linda, located in Ixtapa, to meet out surf instructor Edgar and surf until about 10am or 11am.  We have all really enjoyed learning to surf and starting the day off with some exercise.  After surfing we usually head to lunch at one of the local restaurants in either Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo.   Ixtapa is the town we are staying in and it is the most upscale, tourist oriented town nearby.

Zihuatenejo as Roy describes it, is a more authentic view into Mexican Culture.   So we had to lunch at some local joints picked out by Roy or our surf guide Edgar.  These are no tourist traps, these are real deal Mexican.

My favorite meal so far has been the mole chicken at the little restaurant in the middle of a busy market in Zihuatenejo.  This place only seats about ten people and is all surrounding a big kitchen with three Mexican ladies doing everything.  As it turns out though, the place puts out really good food.

After lunch we head back to the villa and rest until art class at 12:00pm.  Art class is pretty fun and it is cool because our teacher is also in recovery.  After art we have Spanish class with Juan. Juan is a cool dude, and he understands he is there to teach us Spanish that we can use immediately on this trip.  This means he mostly teaches us phrases we are likely to use and does not mess around with specifics of grammar and conjugation.

After Spanish we rest or go to pool until 5:30 which is when we head out to a meeting and dinner.  The meetings are awesome.  The rooms are filled with old timers with lots of sobriety, a lot of which are great people.  After the meeting we head out to dinner with Roy’s friend Bob who is in the room, which is always a great time.  Bob has a lot of sobriety and serves as a mentor figure for Roy and the rest of us during our time here, but is also just a solid dude to joke with.   Fun times in Mexico and loved the surfing as our outdoor adventure therapy.
