I think that my first trip to Hell’s Gate was very moving because I went into the trip in a bad head space thinking it was going to be extremely hard. After getting down into the canyon I realized how hard getting out was going to be. I ended up having a lot of fun though because we were able to jump off cliffs and into the water below. I was also able to use makeshift fishing poles made out of branches.
The next day before the hike out I began to become stressed out because I knew how hard the hike out was going to be. I then was getting upset over it. Once we started the hike I started to breakdown and I made it 50 feet before putting everything on the ground and sat down. A few of the guys tried to calm me down and that got me even more pissed off.
After a few minutes I started to turn around mentally and got up and began hiking. I decided to push myself as hard as I can and I ended up crushing the hike. After that I realized how mental the hikes are and started a new way I look at them.
