I have completed my initial 6 months at Back2Basics Soberliving and started moving into the transitional living phase of the program. Part of this phase is finding a job, learning to stay sober while having daily stresses and circumstances. I personally have been incredibly fortunate finding to find work. The first person I spoke with said they would love for me to work for them and I could start the next day if I wanted to. It may not sound like much but in itself it is actually amazing.
Considering I virtually no professional experience to bring to the table, no cell phone, no personal transportation to get to work by 6am I live in extended care, and I was told to trust the process.
This is just the personal garbage I bring to the table. The job market
without taking consideration of my own personal circumstances is hard
to get a job during the hardest economic times in recent history. In
addition, seven months ago I was a wasted up drug addict.
So all in all it is pretty amazing and I am grateful. To add on to
that it is actually a job I enjoy working for. It is a start-up
company that does green construction, where I have wanted to work with
for two years.
For my job I am a weatherization specialist and come next month I
should have a certificate as a building analyst. Basically, what that
means is I go into people’s homes and make them more efficient. Most
of the work is contracted through the government as part of the Obama
Administration Stimulus package for low income family housing. The
house is audited where they find out what the big fixes are. I and someone else come in, repair it accordingly, and find out what
else is causing problems. Most people do not realizes how much heat and energy they are losing due to sloppy construction or unseen damage throughout the homes.
