Back2Basics Recovery offers comprehensive addiction counseling in Flagstaff, Arizona, combining evidence-based therapeutic methods with outdoor adventure to support lasting sobriety. Our licensed therapists guide each client through personalized individual and group counseling, 12-step programming, and community-based recovery throughout their entire stay.
Addiction counseling is a structured, evidence-based clinical process that helps individuals identify the psychological roots of substance use and develop lasting skills for sustained recovery. At Back2Basics, individual and group counseling sessions are led by licensed therapists and clinically supervised master’s-level counselors — the same clinical team throughout each client’s entire stay.
This consistency, combined with 12-step meetings and community service components, supports a well-rounded approach to sober living.
We begin with a thorough process inventory exploring each client’s history with substance use, its impact on themselves and others, and the emotional weight of guilt and shame. This initial storytelling phase can span from one month to the entire length of stay.
From there, we explore the underlying causes and conditions of addiction, encouraging deep self-awareness of the personality traits that coexist with substance abuse. All therapeutic work is client-centered.
It is best to use the “power of the group” (group involvement) for interventions such as confrontation on specific individual issues, peer pressure, modeling by other members, and personal non-sexual connections. Group therapy is integral to the Back2Basics program.
Individual therapy sessions provide a trusted, non-threatening space to address deeply personal issues. Topics explored in one-on-one sessions can be brought to group therapy at the client's discretion.
Back2Basics accepts most private health insurance plans. To verify your benefits, simply complete an admissions form to get started.
12-step meeting topics include sobriety, relapse prevention, coping skills, spirituality, honesty, self-care, and post-acute withdrawal. These discussions support clients in building the tools and perspective needed for sustainable recovery.
The primary goal at Back2Basics is a well-rounded, sober lifestyle — physical, emotional, and spiritual. This transformation requires meaningful support from a 12-step community, sponsors, and licensed therapists.
Clients participate in community service activities as a method of therapy for recovery. Community service promotes social responsibility and assists in the progress of a sober lifestyle.
To support the recovery process and ensure the wellness of all the clients, Back2Basics administers frequent urine analyses. Relapse can often be part of recovery, however, continued relapse cannot be tolerated for that reason. Continued, health-driven sobriety of
each client is our primary goal.
Back2Basics now accepts most private health insurance plans, making professional addiction counseling more accessible. PPO, HMO, EPO, and employer-sponsored plans may all be eligible for coverage.
When you arrive at Back2Basics, your counseling journey begins with a comprehensive process inventory of your substance use history and emotional experiences. This honest “storytelling” phase helps your therapist understand the root causes driving your addiction.
You’ll work with the same licensed therapist throughout your entire stay — ensuring continuity, trust, and deeper therapeutic progress over time.
Healing from addiction often requires repairing family wounds and rebuilding trust with loved ones. Back2Basics incorporates family therapy as a directed component of the overall counseling program.
