Back2Basics young adult treatment center welcomes change of the seasons with new staff and field work.

Back2Basics Hiking Sedona The large number of residents and summer solstice prompts seasonally-focused outdoor adventures and the hire of new staff at Back2Basics Sober Living.

A lot of preparation goes into planning for a new season of field work (outdoor adventures) at B2B. It requires a select group of staff and a prayer to Mother Nature for kind weather.

“In the winter we see snow in Flagstaff, and in the summer we can get high temperatures, especially for hiking,” said CEO and found Roy DuPrez. “Our current high number of residents is another factor we have to consider for the summer season.”

Newest Back2Basics outdoor adventure staff, Beth Copeland will help prep residents for her first outing with the treatment center this week.

“We are thrilled to have more residents at Back2Basics. The more seasoned residents often set an example to our newer residents, but having Beth to assist with field work allows us to give them more of the one-on-one they deserve,” said DuPrez.

Copeland will be training and assisting outdoor adventure director, Chase Christensen with the treatment center’s record resident numbers summer heat.

“During the summer months we plan our trips around water and encourage our residents to drink lots of it, while we are on the field,” said Christensen. “Soon the residents will be starting a five-week kayaking certification class through Northern Arizona University for our trip to San Juan.”

Other trips that residents will be taking include West Fork Creek is Sedona, Az., Moab, Ut., rafting in the Grand Canyon, Mt. Humphreys in northern Az. and Mt. Baldi in eastern Az.

“My personal favorite is West Fork because it’s the most physically challenging for myself and the residents; there isn’t a set trail to hike,” said Christensen.
