The Reality of Recovery

Table of Contents

Recently we had a member of our community pass from an overdose. This member was a huge part of our community and had a lot of impact on the ones around him. It was a pretty sad night when he passed but the word that comes to mind is gratitude. This disease/mental illness can take anyone in the blink of an eye. It could happen to any addict or alcoholic. This member had gone to multiple rehabs and tried everything in his power to get sober. He seemed to have everything under control from the outside but in the inside, didn’t have control over his disease. In the residential community I feel that we have all come together a lot closer because of this loss. This member gave us a chance to get real within the community and gave us all a wake-up call that, “hey, this shit is real and if we don’t get this shit, death is in our near future.” For a lot of us that are in B2B, its life or death for us and if we don’t take our recovery serious, it will be death or an institution. This disease is so real and takes people by the thousands all the time. Although this member passing is super sad, it gives the community fuel in the fire to take this shit seriously and do everything in our power to not take this work for granted.
