When I was first told by my mom that she had found a place (Back 2 Basics) that she thought would be a good place for me to go to. I thought to myself, there is no way I am going to a place for three months. I didn’t want to go somewhere I didn’t know anyone and where I would feel uncomfortable in. As my mom learned more about Back 2 Basics, she told me about all the activities provided by this treatment facility, I thought, “How bad could it be”? I thought it might be nice to get out of the town I’m from and away from all my using friends. As time went by to really think about Back 2 Basics, I decided that this place would be a good idea and so I gave it a shot. I knew I needed a Heroin Addiction Center, but was scared to go to treatment. So my my mom said she had been looking and was able to find a drug rehab facility that might be a good fit.
I realized that the outdoor adventure trips help get our addict minds away from thinking destructive thoughts. It shows us that people can enjoy other things in life then getting high. I finally was able to enjoy all of the scenery that was around us and appreciate what this program has to offer. After this, I knew that I could do this. Being able to change my thoughts of how an addict behaves, I’ve learned that this is a good thing and that it will help me stay sober. I especially thought that this process will give me some kind of knowledge of how to acquire happiness and peace, regardless if life may not always go as planned. Change is good and if it starts by changing the way we think, then I’ve already learned a lot. I am glad that my mom found this young adult treatment center in Flagstaff. I have learned about life, and although it seems to be a scary process, I am confident that this was the right choice.
