Arches National Park Blog

By: P.M.H.

This weekend we took an outdoor trip to Moab, Utah to Arches National Park. I think that Arches is one of the cooler National Parks that I’ve been to in my life. I had seen pictures of the arches before and had been told about how cool they were, but I had no idea they would be this awesome in person. Throughout the day the arches we visited got bigger and better, and the trip more and more fun and amazing. We started our day with a visit to a smaller arch close to our campsite known as Cable Arch. It was about a mile and a half hike up a hill in the rain, but seeing the arch was well worth it. It is called Cable Arch because on the hill next to it there is a steel cable you can climb to get a better view of the arch. At the top of the hill we were above the arch and could get an awesome view of it and we could see across Moab all the way to Arches National Park itself. After we climbed down the hill we headed over to the visitors center at the park. Here we got to watch a short movie about how all the arches and spires in the park were formed. It’s amazing how much power the forces of nature have to create such beautiful and awe-inspiring formations. After the visitors center we hiked to Delicate Arch, which is one of the more famous arches in the park and the unofficial symbol of Utah. It was another fun hike with great views and at the end an amazing Arch. We hung out there for a while and took pictures then headed to Double Arch. This arch was the biggest arch we saw today and as the name implies it was two arches connected to each other. The sheer size of it was amazing and thinking about how it was formed with just water and time was crazy. It was definitely my favorite arch that I saw and I’m glad we spent as much time as we did there. On the way back to camp we passed some of the spires like Balanced Rock and The Three Gossips. Arches National Park has tons of other arches and spires such as Landscape Arch, which is the biggest Arch in the world and Devil’s Garden which I don’t know much about other than it’s really cool. Moab also has tons of areas where outdoor activities such as mountain biking, river rafting, and rock climbing are frequently done. I hope that one day I can return to this amazing place and take part in everything it has to offer.
