Photos and words by current resident Joe V.
This afternoon marked a special day for Back2Basics Outdoor Adventures – the program celebrates it’s four-year anniversary. Closing off the weekend with a look back at the beginning by staff who built the program and even before then, struggled with addiction themselves. This staff went on to create something that could help others and offer them something more than the insanity of addiction. And as current graduating residents, staff, and therapists were acknowledged for their participation and work at B2B, it becomes apparent that something was in fact offered and received. The same people who were once in my shoes stood up and shared about their pits and peaks of getting clean now work for B2B. They transformed from a person who once couldn’t garner the smallest amount of trust in someone to a person that many people now rely on, day in and day out.
The theme of the ceremony the without a doubt gratitude. Each resident, staff and therapist was grateful for getting the opportunity to be a part of this program and contribute to the recovery of residents. There is a mutual passion amongst staff to be able to work with people suffering from addiction and see them grow, to feel their pain and celebrate their happiness. It is this empathy and commitment to success in each individual who open the door to Hunter House that makes this program what it is.
Some amazing and beautiful things have taken place over the last four years, and only build excitement for what is possible in the future.
