I never thought teaching would give me a true sense of purpose in snowboarding to help others… maybe even sponsor someone one. Without Back 2 Basics Outdoor Adventure Therapy program I don’t think I would have realized this opportunity. It wasn’t until B2B took us on an outing to Snowbowl for fun, exercise and group therapy involvement that it became a reality for me.
Cold crisp air, sunshine, good snow, and good company is how my day of snowboarding started, how could you ask for more?
I had a lot of fun this weekend snowboarding, and up until two weeks ago I had not been since I was twenty-three, because of my alcoholism and isolation. Being up on top of the mountain made me realize just how much I was missing out on. And being able to go again this weekend I became more comfortable and was more relaxed being back on a board.
I also had a great time trying to give helpful hints and teach the others a few things. It’s a great feeling trying to help someone when your only motivation is to see them succeed. Which for me in the past hasn’t always been the case. I can use this experience to keep me looking forward to sponsoring someone in the future. Overall it was a great time snowboarding as well as getting to spend time with some other clients and getting to know the staff a little better.
