It’s hard to believe that addiction recovery can take place while you’re skiing Colorado, but it’s true! It’s a normal part of the Back 2 Basics Outdoor Adventure Therapy program and boy did we cover it all!
Skiing in Colorado was an awesome new experience for me. I got to ski at three mountains I never thought I’d ski at.
First day we went to Keystone. I’ve never been to a mountain that big. I was really nervous because I haven’t been skiing in ten years, but I picked it up fast, with the help of my peers and staff. It was beautiful out and was an amazing day.
Second day we went to Beaver Creek Resort. I was really sore but didn’t want to sit out because of all the fun we were having. The the last two days we went to Breckenridge. Brek was my favorite mountain. It was so big it was amazing. The view’s were beautiful and it was a good spiritual experience. Toward the end of the day it started snowing which was awesome to ski in. This is when I really started getting the hang of skiing going down harder trails. The last day at Brek, I really got into it. It was snowing all day and was a great experience.
I got a lot out of this trip. It was so much fun. It makes me grateful to be sober and be able to do things like this. I can actually show up and be present for it. It makes me realize I can have fun and do awesome things as long as I’m doing the right thing. It was really nice to get to know everyone better too. My peers that I’m going through this with I know them on a deeper level now. Also getting to know staff better as people not just staff. This trip really exceeded my expectations and was an awesome fun experience that I won’t forget.
