Taking Time To Find The Right Sponsor

Table of Contents

Being new to Back2Basics Residential program, I figured it was time to get a sponsor. One of the staff recommended that I wait a month before I pick out my new sponsor. I had a few people offer me sponsorship in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings we go to almost every day, so I kept some individuals in mind. I wanted to choose someone who I would relate to and had similarities to my story. I eventually found a sponsor named Sam who I had a real connection with. He had been through some very rough situations similar to me. We were both kicked out of our houses and we were forced to live in not the best living situations. Though our stories are different at times, we can relate to one another very frequently. My sponsor is a very hard working individual and is a straight up type of person. Meaning he will call me out on bullshit if needed, which is good for me considering before this program I was full of bullshit and lies. I am super glad and excited to finally get a sponsor and I am glad I got one who I can really relate too in multiple ways. I am super stoked to finally begin working on steps to my spirituality and acceptance of being an alcoholic. I think working the steps will keep me sober and help me become more aware and help me become less insecure.
