Thanksgiving was an amazing time. I can’t really remember my last Thanksgiving that I got together with my family. The last sober Thanksgiving I can remember was spent in Camp Verde, Arizona while my great grandmother was still with us. I had to have been a teenager back then. This Thanksgiving was amazing getting together with friends that I consider family. I’ve never been a huge fan of turkey and Thanksgiving food but always looked forward to the fellowship. The food actually turned out amazing and it was great celebrating my first sober holiday in longer than I can remember. We had a fun day and it felt great to have a break from the normal. A little break from the daily grind some good food and fun. Bowling and having fun to end the night.
Its a good reminder why being sober can be so much better than anything you get being high. Thanksgiving itself gave me a lot to be thankful for in the moment and had me thinking of all the good I have as a whole picture. I am always trying to have a positive outlook on life and its good to remind myself of these things on a daily basis. I believe its a practice everyone should be doing. I’m thankful for everything as long as life to as small as each breath I take. Thanksgiving did have me missing my family but I was still with my brothers. It will be nice when I can be a beacon and solid role model for my little sister. I talked to her and she said she was thankful for me. It was a good hit in the heart and I love her too. I’ve been distant for most of her years and I’m glad I’ll have a chance to be that person.
