Since I was young I have been interested in environmental sustainability ad preservation. I have both volunteered and studied abroad where I had been a part of group projects directed towards sustainability efforts. It has always been a passion of mine. Unfortunately drugs and alcohol began to become my main life focus and all interest of mine quickly disappeared. I lost sight of all of my passions and values. I have not been a part of any productive team effort in years. This week long trip gave me the opportunity to reconnect with my values and interest again in a positive teamwork atmosphere. This trip allowed me to use physical strength to give back to the environment and work with others to build a fence which discourages the overuse of water sources by cattle. By preventing overuse it allows a continuous water source for other wildlife. Not only did I get to directly give back but I was also able to learn a great deal of information pertaining to the project that we were working on and the surrounding land owned by the Forest Service. This land is also considered “multi-use land.” It was inspiring talking with the Grand Canyon Trust employees about their job objectives and as well as the employees of the Forest Service. Speaking with them gave me faith in both organizations ability to take action when it needs to be taken. This inspired me to continue working toward my goal of finishing my degree so that one day I can be a part of the environmental sustainability movement. This week long trip was great and just what I needed in a time like this. I am very grateful for this opportunity. Client Journal by: NC
