D. River Trip Experience

I have ben with Back to Basics for around five months now. The program gave the residents the opportunity to go on two river trips, since I have been here. The first trip was on the San Juan River in Utah and the second was on the Chama River in New Mexico. Both River trips were very enjoyable. It honestly didn’t feel as if we were in a treatment center. It felt as if we were on a vacation with friends including the staff. We partnered up and floated down the river, got into some
splash, wars and even got the chance to pirate people off their raffs. When we go on outdoor trips I feel as if everyone gets into a good space and our outdoor meetings become real genuine. We all bond and form a stronger community this and become brothers to one another.

The food was amazing. The company we went with understands us and wanted to get to know us all.
Same goes with the staff here at Back to Basics. Sometimes I can take what has been provided for me
here for granted, but the trips, staff, and residents give me a reminder and put me in my place. Who
knows where I could’ve been at this time in my life. I’m glad I have the support from my family to
provide me such an experience. All in all the river trips I’ve been on really has brought me true
happiness that wouldn’t change for anything.
