Mexican Culture
During my stay, I have really come to appreciate Mexican culture. Hearing about another country’s language and culture in a classroom doesn’t quite do it justice. Since middle school I’ve been interested in South American history and culture and I usually paid attention in Spanish classes. I came here able to speak some Spanish because of school and because I’ve worked in kitchens for many years so basic communication with the locals has been possible for me. The people here seem very friendly and speaking with someone in another language is an interesting experience. Though many of these people have so little materially it doesn’t seem to bother them. They work hard but lay hard as well. Mexicans seem very social and they appear to always be out of their homes spending time together and laughing and enjoying each other’s company. It is an interesting switch from the lifestyle in the states and I think I could get used to the Mexican way of life.
