Today for my client journal I have decided to talk about survival. Why? Because I think that the correlation of survival in the life that i was living to the life in the real world as a contributing member of society is very interesting. I am going to start off in the life I was living.

Before Back2Basics I was in my own detrimental with my own vehicle for a short time before my addiction got bad again. When I moved out I had no one to hold me accountable for my actions so I started a detrimental bender. About a month of living on my own, my use was out of control and I did not know how or want to stop even though it was getting bad.

How it was getting bad you might ask yourself? Well I had lost my job because of use. I was almost never sober and always creating problems for people I was living with and loved one sin my life. Then about a few days later I wrecked my car that I had only had for 2 weeks at that point.

Not sure where to start? Every recovery journey is different—we can help you find the right path.

So from there to “Survive” in my mind I had to sell drugs and steal in order to pay rent, eat and of course pay for my expensive habit. And in my mind the the top of my survival list was my substances which just shows how bad this correlation gets and is.

And now survival and as I’m in recovery survival here at Back2Basics. My actual necessities are at the top of my list. Such as food, shelter, family, support and a good community surrounding me. In the future it is going to be taxes, food, food for my dog and a lot of family time because all of the ensures happiness and that is a big part of survival to me. Addiction recovery is one step at a time and I’m learning how to take those steps here at B2B to survive in long-term sobriety.
